Unified Theater’s Spotlight Summit – February 8, 2013

Unified Theater is a nonprofit organization in Connecticut that brings together middle and high school students with and without disabilities through the performing arts.   Unified Theater is for and led entirely by middle and high school students with the support of faculty advisors.   United Theater’s training offers support to the youth by helping them implement, write, direct, and organize every aspect of a performing arts production.   The nonprofit organization was founded in 2002 and has served thousands of children from within and outside of Connecticut since its inception.

In October 2012, Unified Theater held a very successful Spotlight Summit at the Connecticut State Capitol.   This summit focused on all the students’ abilities rather than the disabilities.   Building on the success of this first summit, a second Spotlight Summit has been planned for February 8, 2013, at the Aetna Center in Hartford from 9:30 a.m.  to 2:00 p.m.  Joining Unified Theater in February’s Spotlight Summit are the CT Association of Schools, the State Education Resource Center, (SERC) the State Department of Education (SDE) and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.

To learn more about the upcoming Spotlight Summit and how your school district can participate or if your school is interested in beginning a Unified Theater program, but you are unable to attend the February 8, 2013, Spotlight Summit Training please contact Roslynn Hooks, Director of Program Development @ roz@unifiedtheater.org.  She will be happy to facilitate an on-site training for any school at a time that would be more convenient.   A flyer with additional information has been included as well.  The cost to attend the summit is five hundred dollars; however, please note that scholarships and transportation assistance are available.

Once a school has signed up, attended /or are registered to attend a Unified Theater Spotlight Summit Training, they are then eligible to apply for Unified Theater’s Discovery Dollars production grant program.   These mini grants are a great way to help offset the costs associated in running a Unified Theater Program.
